What is BPM (Beats Per Minute)?

BPM, or Beats Per Minute, is the universal metric used to measure the tempo or speed of a piece of music. It represents the number of quarter-note beats that occur within exactly 60 seconds.

  • A song with 60 BPM has exactly one beat per second (like a ticking clock).
  • A track with 120 BPM is twice as fast, with two beats per second, which is the standard tempo for many Pop and House music tracks.

Why Do You Need a BPM Finder?

  1. DJs & Mixing: A DJ's primary job is to smoothly transition from one song to another. To do this perfectly (Beatmatching), the DJ must know the BPM of both tracks. If Song A is 120 BPM and Song B is 125 BPM, the DJ will slightly speed up Song A to match them.
  2. Music Production: When producing a remix or a mashup, a producer must know the tempo of the original vocal or instrumental stem to align it with their software (DAW) grid.
  3. Workout & Running Playlists: Runners often look for songs with specific tempos (like 160-170 BPM) to match their running cadence and keep their heart rate consistent.

How Our Tap Tempo Tool Works

You don't need expensive DJ software to find the tempo of a song. With our online BPM Finder (Tap Tempo), simply play the music in the background and tap any key on your keyboard (or tap the screen on mobile) along with the beat.

The algorithm will instantly calculate the average time between your taps and display the exact BPM in real-time.
